As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?
Psalms 42:1-2 NLT
Have you ever stood on the shore of a river and watched the water carry debris? It really is amazing how weightless the heaviest of things become as the water carries them to a new resting place.
And have you ever stood at the beginning of the day and wondered how in the world you were going to get everything done? What the outcome of that situation will be? When your heart will stop aching? How will all those little worries be resolved?
All these things – our sorrows, our suffering, our anxieties – reduce our instincts to trust God. Our inclination is to stand on the shore and fight these battles ourselves. In fact, somedays, we would rather sear in our busyness and pain than surrender it to God. Yet, while life rages on, we yearn for the refreshment of God’s peace, and we know where to find it, but He seems so far away.
“When can I go meet with Him” we ask? Today! Right now! Our God is a God of relentless love, and His river is always flowing for you. His streams do not dry up and He does not hide in them or swim away. But He doesn’t force us to jump in either. That choice is ours. It’s up to us to surrender our control to trust Him. He is the One who carries our burdens, who heals our heart aches, who calms our fears and anxieties. He is the One who leads us to springs of life! He alone will lighten our load and wipe every tear from our eyes.
Yes, Jesus is our living water! And He is waiting for you. Come to the water. Come to Jesus! Ask him today to take the heaviness of your heart, and like weightless debris, let him carry it to a new resting place in the tides of his amazing love.
For the Lamb on the throne with be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of life-giving water. And wipe every tear from their eyes.
