“Pay attention to this, Job. Stop and consider the wonderful miracles of God! Do you know how God controls the storm and causes the lightning to flash from his clouds? Do you understand how he moves the clouds with wonderful perfection and skill? When you are sweltering in your clothes and the south wind dies down and everything is still, he makes the skies reflect the heat like a bronze mirror. Can you do that?”
Job 37:14-18
As we reflect on this past year, let’s not forget how far God has brought us. Whether we have been flooded with blessings or had our faith greatly tested, we made it and are walking into another year!
There is no doubt that we’ll face more challenges next year. And as we have no way of controlling what will come our way, we can control how we respond. We can stop and smell the roses, even when life isn’t smelling so good. We can take a minute to watch the clouds and wonder how they stay afloat. We can stand in awe of the thunderstorm, watching the synchronized mystery of the lightning, thunder and rain. We can find refreshment in a sunset at the end of a hot and sweaty day. And even when “we cannot imagine the true power of the Almighty” (Job 37:23) in the things we cannot see, we can be confident that God’s glory and power surrounds us and that he is in control.
So as we go into next year, let’s not just wish for a better year, but let’s pay attention and be diligent in looking for the splendor of God, and let’s look forward to letting God do what only He can do!
