“The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing“.
Proverbs 12:18
How many nights have I lay awake grieving over my words. The words I said in reckless haste or indifferent response. Words that not only haunt me, but the person I spoke them to. The collateral damage I’ve caused by words that can’t be taken back or excused. Words that are now etched into my character in the mind of the receiver and words that could harm the character of another.
We all are guilty of insensitive words through sarcasm, criticism, complaining, reacting, and yes…even gossip at times. And our words are powerful. They are more powerful than our talents. More powerful than our actions. More powerful than our “religion”.
Jesus tells us that we are the salt among the people, so our words should be the essence of who we are in Him. But when our words bring hurt instead of healing, the bitter remains and our essence is soured.
Are there any particular words that have come out of your mouth that need to be addressed? Ask the Lord for wisdom and strength in reconciling those words with the one they were spoken to and then ask for patient sensitivity in your future choice of words. Ask God what good you can do today by moving your words from reckless to healing.

It’s a work in progress friends, but a work worth striving for.
